Birthday Photos at Duke Gardens in Durham, NC

The Family Story: Morgan got a call when Everett was 2 weeks old that the newborn screening tests showed her son had SCID (Severe combined immunodeficiency). Essentially he had no immune system. While holding her seemingly healthy newborn in her arms she was told most children die within the first year of life. However, a bone marrow transplant could cure him. His brother Furgus was a match and he was able to donate this bone marrow to save Everett’s life. One year later Everett has a function immune system, and we celebrated together in the Gardens. Everett turning one and Furgus turning 4 years old- these two brothers now have a extra special connection to each other!

The Location: Duke Gardens, Durham, North Carolina
