Snavely Family at Croasdaile Farm in Durham || Durham Family Photography
The Family Story: Elena was diagnosed with breast cancer in late June 2021. Last summer I had the privilege of documenting their family's love just before Elena began chemo. After much chemo and radiation, treatment is slowing down and this summer things are a bit quieter.
A few months ago Elena got a tattoo on her left wrist - a lollipop as a reminder to live more like her children. A reminder to step back and enjoy the moment. Elena says, "seeing my lollipop every day brings me joy and reminds me to treasure every moment I can and that even on hard days there is still something pretty great that happens if you are looking for it.”
Thank you for your wisdom Elena!
And I’m also reminded of the Philosopher and theologian Brother David Steindl-Rast when he explains, “Everything is gift. The degree to which we are awake to this truth is a measure of our gratefulness, and gratefulness is a measure of our aliveness.”
The Location: Croasdaile Farm in Durham, North Carolina (this is one of my favoriate photography locations in Durham! It’s magical with gorgeous light, visits from the deer, the blue heron, ducks. It’s the most perfect place for kids!)
