The Window Portrait Project: April 2020

The Window Portrait Project: A portrait series documenting families at home with their children during isolation and enforced lockdown in Durham, North Carolina. This series is photographed entirely through a window as this experience is lived. 

As a mother myself and having to put all my paid work on hold, I am now spending my days learning a new rhythm with my three year old son. We’ve been asked to put our life on hold before. We’ve been asked before to change directions and surrender to the unknown. Each time it is hard. Each time the journey deserves documenting and preserving.

I also see the importance of documenting this through a mother’s eyes. Our children require more understanding and more tenderness to help guide them through this unusual period, but our own reserves are running low. It’s hard to find time to tend to our own emotional roller coaster and are own needs as mothers.  Yet, I still see so much love amidst the chaos and despair. I want mothers to see this reflected back to them in images that capture this unique time we are living through.
